Drinking water, which is a precious resource, is in scant supply in Dwarka. Water suppliers and unscrupulous agents, misuse this opportunity and charge high rates for the water cans, that does not even meet the set quality standards. And we, bound by habit, buy from the vendor who sells water cans at the cheapest rate, without even bothering about the extent to which such water can cause harm to our health. Authorities should intervene and start provision to sell the potable water cans (20ltrs) through designated outlets, like Mother Dairy outlets at reasonable rates and ensuring adequate quality (read purity) of the water being sold .Some Mother Dairy outlets are already selling water, but as private vendors and thus charge high rates. There are open spaces in Dwarka (at least, as of now)— An area can be carved out of these, and reserved for a bio-diversity park in Dwarka—on the same lines as has recently been done for ‘Vasant Kunj’, by the CMDE (Center for Environment Management of Degraded Ecosystems). This will no doubt, go a long way -- i) To solve the water problems of the Dwarkites, as the water table will rise ii) Enable to make Dwarka greener, cooler and cleaner iii) Turn Dwarka into a weekend destination – seems GREAT (yuppie)!
